The client asked us to utilize the shadowed areas to maximize the capacity. We educated the client that generation would get affected if we install panels in the shadowed areas and the investment that they make would go in vain. The investment for changing the roof of 5th shed will be minimal, so we asked them to do so, resulting in additional 10 kW. This brings the total capacity to 83 kW. While designing, we found that extending a 60 feet long roof by 1.5 feet would accommodate an additional 9 kW. The client was delighted to do so.
The client required 90 kW rooftop solar. The roof being 40 years old asbestos sheet, we advised them to change the asbestos sheet to Galvalume sheet. There are 5 different roofs, the client was planning to change the 4 roofs to Galvalume sheet. After shadow analysis performed using Sketchup Pro software, we found that the shadow free areas can only accommodate 73 kW as opposed to 90 kW.
As the client’s roof area had minimal shadow free area, we did a thorough study to meet the client’s needs without compromising the efficiency. As we backed everything with data, the hesitant client was happy to accept our proposed plan.
Optimal energy generation is ensured by installing the solar panels in the shadow free area. Thus, the client’s pay back period is optimized, which would have gone higher otherwise.
